Irritating Phone Calls

Over the last few week I have received a number of scam / unsolicited phone calls even though I am registered with the telephone preferences agency so should not receive any.

So I thought that I would start a blog listing them

Two days ago I got a call from the British Consumer Survey who wanted to know about me told them no, then said was reporting them to the telephone preferences agency they hung up(surprise)
The phone number is bogus if you ring it you get nothing. 04412356498

24th February 2012

I received a telephone call from UK claims and finance, saying that I am entitled to money back from the government and asking if Iwould like the money as a check or paid into the bank.
Not being stupid I said check there was no way I was giving out bank details.

They then asked for my DOB which I refused to give at whichpoint he said that I was not giving information to a government officer andthey would debit my bank account by £100.

I asked him to verify my bank details, which he refused, so I asked whichbank I banked with, but all I got was your bank account has been debited by£100 check and see when I said I had and it had not been debited he hung up.

I could not retrieve the telephone number as it was from anetwork that does not transmit numbers.

This call worried me so I reported it to the action fraud website where it also said to report it to the local police, on the 101 number. After speaking to them they said that there was lots of these calls at the moment and it was unlikely that any action would be taken but a report was logged.

What scares me is that an older person without access to on line banking may fall for this sort of scam and believe that it was possible to take money from their account
